Riatine Tanian, sister to Selena Tanian, was separated from her at birth. Her mother went with Selena to Arad Doman, while her father took her to Cairhien. She grew up only knowing him, never wondering about her mother, and never wondering about her sister.

Her father's status in the city grew, until the two of them became well-recognized in the community. Her father's apparent greed, however, kept Riatine from doing all she wanted. Her father spend money on frivilous items, and even boosted his ego enough as to let an Aes Sedai serve as hisadvisor.

This Aes Sedai served as Riatine's savior. During financial hardships, othe rmembers of the community became angry and saw their chance to attack. They did so swiftly, killing Riatine's father and driving her out of town.

Alone, and lost, Riatine came upon the same Aes Sedai who was her father's advisor. She told Riatine of her ability to channel, and as quick as possible, she was ushered tothe White Tower.

There, as Novices, she met her sister Selena, in a joyius reunion. But, due to a potential misunderstanding, the two argued until their heated relationship jeopardized their ability to work at the White Tower.

And so, Riatine left, finding her way to the Tower of Hope, her oasis in a desert of loneliness.

Riatine speaks her mind very often, and does so without thinking of what she is saying. She is also flirtatious, but not very much. As can be suspected, gets her into trouble a bit often.

But, Riatine can be very caring and thoughtful as well. Her personality towards people usually depends on their attitude towards her.

As one last point, growing up in Cairhien has made Riatine very good at political maneuvers, and is usually the first to think up a solution to a problem anyone isfacing.
